The Brampton Golf Club is celebrating “90 Years of Golf in 2011. To support and elevate our celebrations during the 2011 golf season we have agreed to host the Investors Group GAO Men’s Amateur Championship. Raising awareness to the largest and historic amateur championship is one of our objectives.
Our storied past history of golf here at Brampton was introduced in the late 1890’s by Al Chisholm, son of Kenneth Chisholm who represented Peel in the Ontario Legislature. During September of 1921 a meeting was called and the following appeared in the Brampton Conservator:
“tonight there is a serious attempt to form a Golf Club in Brampton…golf is a great game from start to finish, requiring strong nerve, endurance power of concentration, strength, and sound judgment…”
The meeting was a success as the early members raised eight thousand dollars to buy the land to form the Brampton Golf Club.
The original 9 hole BGC was designed by legendary Stanley Thompson, which is now the City of Brampton Golf Course and subsequently in 1963 The Brampton Golf Club moved to our present location which was designed by protégé of Stanley, the late C.E. “Robbie” Robinson.
We are extremely proud of our contribution to Golf in Canada and Ontario. Brampton has hosted numerous Provincial and National golf championships including;
* 1969 Ontario Amateur – Champion - Nick Weslock
* 1978 CPGA Seniors Championship – Champion - Bill Kozak
* 1979 CPGA Seniors Championship – Champion - Moe Norman
* 1980 CPGA Seniors Championship – Champion - Moe Norman
* 1981 CPGA Seniors Championship – Champion - Moe Norman
* 1983 CPGA Seniors Championship – Champion - Moe Norman
* 1985 CPGA Championship – Champion – Dave Barr
* 1989 Canadian Tour Players Championship – Champion – Gerry Anderson
Our members have also won numerous championships including;
